Donald Trump branded Iranian general Qassem Soleimani the “world’s number one terrorist” and defended his decision to kill him.
The US President also blasted Democrats as being weak on national security at a supporter rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, today.
“The Democrats are outraged that we killed this terrorist monster, even though this monster was behind hundreds and hundreds of deaths,” Mr Trump told a crowd of thousands of people.
Scores of people do not have legs and arms right now “because of this son of a b***h,” he added.
The missile strike at Baghdad airport happened after Mr Trump blamed Iran for attacks on the US embassy in Iraq’s capital.
However the decision came under intense criticism from Democrats who have questioned about whether it really prevented an imminent attack, as some Trump administration officials have claimed.
The assassination of Soleimani has met a furious response from Iran, who vowed to take “harsh revenge” on the US.
They also carried out a series of ballistic missile strikes on US military bases in Iraq, although there were no casualties.
And a passenger jet taking off from Iranian capital Tehran was mistakenly shot down by the country’s military, killing all 176 people on board.
Yesterday Iran arrested an undisclosed number of people involved in the shooting down of the Ukraine International Airlines flight.
Now Mr Trump is eyeing the presidential election later this year, as primary voting to select his Democrat opponent starts.
