The upcoming JURASSIC WORLD 3 will feature more than a few familiar characters from the franchise, including a couple who sat the last film out. It was announced today that Jake Johnson (SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE) and Omar Sy (THE CALL OF THE WILD) would be reprising their JURASSIC WORLD roles for the third film.
In case you need a refresher, Jake Johnson played Lowery Cruthers, an employee in the park’s control room (the one with the Jurassic Park shirt), while Omar Sy played Barry, a dinosaur trainer who assists Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) with the velociraptors. Both characters mangaged to escape the island in one piece in the first film. In response to the news, JURASSIC WORLD writer/director Colin Trevorrow tweeted, “Old friends.” Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will also be back for the sequel, as will Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda, who were introduced in JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, where they will be joined by franchise newbies DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It) and Mamoudou Athie (UNDERWATER).
JURASSIC WORLD 3 will also feature the return of Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, and Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler. Last year, Colin Trevorrow, who is co-writing the script alongside Emily Carmichael, discussed why the time was finally right to bring back the original JURASSIC PARK trio, and why they weren’t included in the first JURASSIC WORLD film.
We’d have had to come up with a reason why Ellie, Malcolm and Grant all went to the theme park on the exact same day it broke down – again. The next film allows the legacy characters to be a part of the story in an organic way. Emily Carmichael and I call it ‘Jurassic Park VI’, because it is.
Although we caught a glimpse of Jeff Goldblum in JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, we haven’t seen Sam Neill and Laura Dern since JURASSIC PARK III, nearly twenty years ago. “You start asking the most basic questions: who are these people now? What do they make of the new world they’re living in, and how do they feel about being part of its history?” Trevorrow teased. “Ultimately it will be in collaboration with the actors. They know and love these characters. We’ll do it together.” JURASSIC WORLD 3 is set for a June 11, 2021 release.
