Design Realme 3
Realme 3 has a plastic body design, a back cover with color transition effect and a front “water drop” screen. These are all very familiar details in the design of Realme and Oppo phones in the mid-range segment launched from last year up to now.
This product currently has 2 color options: blue and black. Both colors have a color-shifting effect on the back that looks quite eye-catching. The black version we used in the review changes colors from black to dark blue. In blue, the back face changes from green to blue. The dorsal surface on both color options is processed so it is easy to see fingerprints, especially in the black version.
Realme 3 uses a solid plastic body design and strong beveled back, creating a feeling of holding hands and also quite sure. However, the screen part protruded on the chassis, making the frame without seamlessness, creating the feeling of holding hands when holding or stroking the edge. This is a design problem that has existed on many Oppo phones for several years now.
The back has a 13MP + 2MP dual camera cluster and a slightly raised flash and a one-touch fingerprint sensor.
On the front, Realme 3’s screen is similar to Realme 2 Pro. It uses a 6.2-inch LCD screen with a “water drop” design containing 13MP front camera. But unlike “elder”, the screen of this phone is only HD + resolution, not Full-HD. According to the manufacturer, Realme 3’s screen protector is Gorilla Glass 3 and is also fitted with a suitable screen protector.
On the edges, Realme 3 has all the necessary ports and buttons. Speakerphone, micro USB port is gradually outdated, two microphones and audio jack is brought down to the bottom. 2 SIM slot and separate memory card are located on the left with two volume up and down keys.
Realme 3 uses the SIM slot with 3 separate trays, allowing you to install 2 SIMs in parallel + 1 memory card without having to choose either.
The design is a plus point of Realme 3. It has a pretty eye-catching design with a water drop screen and a back color switch. However, the product also has a drawback: fingerprints on the back of the fingerprint and the unmatched frame cause the hand.
Screen Realme 3
With a 6.2-inch LCD screen and HD + resolution (pixel density 271 PPI), both Realme 3’s size and resolution are similar to Realme 2. New to the older generation is the “water drop” design. Realme 3’s is smaller than “rabbit ears” on Realme 2. Due to the low resolution, application icons and text displayed on Realme 3’s screen will notice mild, not sharp jagged phenomena like Full-HD screen.
The screen display screen is quite standard, deep black and the viewing angle is moderate. The maximum brightness of the screen is average, enough for use in most normal lighting environments except in the sun. When used outdoors in the sun, the screen can read newspapers and texts, but viewing photos is color and glossy, difficult to see. The color temperature of the screen is slightly tweaked, but you can adjust it with the color temperature pull bar in the display settings.
Night display mode has up to 3 different options
Unlike other brands, Realme 3’s night mode offers up to 3 options for different needs: normal color display but blinding blue light; displayed in black and white mode; and white text reading mode on black background.
Overall, it would be better if the Realme 3 uses a Full-HD display, but the quality of the phone is still acceptable compared to its price range.
Software and performance Realme 3
Realme 3 currently has a customized version of Color OS 6 based on the Android 9 version of Google similar to the recently launched Oppo F11 Pro a few weeks ago. The user interface of Color OS 6 has bright, clear and simpler colors than before, close to Google’s Material Design flat language.
The familiar Android application tray has been brought back on Color OS 6
In addition to changing the interface, Color OS 6 has some new features such as an application tray similar to pure Android (optional, not the default); Add navigation gestures from Android 9; game space (notification option displayed when playing games, locking screen brightness at game play and optionally some optimal modes for game play) …
The machine supports many gesture control operations. In addition, the device also has full of familiar software features of Oppo such as gesture control operations, the mode does not disturb when driving a motorbike and cloning applications (using 2 accounts in parallel) phone with some applications like Facebook, Zalo, Messenger).
In terms of performance, the Realme 3 version uses the Helio P60 processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The Helio P60 chip has eight CPU cores including 4 high-performance Cortex-A73 cores at 2GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 power-saving cores with 2GHz speed along with the three-core Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. This is a chip that is used a lot on last year’s mid-range smartphones like the Oppo F7 and Oppo F9. This chip offers quite good performance, especially the low resolution HD + on Realme 3, making the performance experience even softer.
We tried some games on Realme 3 to evaluate the performance of the device through the GameBench application. The first is with PUBG Mobile, which is considered a standard for evaluating current mobile gaming performance. In the medium graphics mode, the game plays relatively smooth, reaching 30 fps and high stability, 86%. In the second game screen, we increased the graphics settings to the HD level (which is the highest level this phone supports) and tuned fps to the maximum level, the process is no longer smooth. It has a frame rate of 25 fps with frame stability reduced to 76%.
Trying on other games like shooting game Dead Trigger 2 does not make it difficult to get Realme 3. The machine has a high frame rate of 60 fps with good stability. During the game, the phone heats up at the fingerprint sensor location but the level of heat has not reached too uncomfortable.
Can say Realme 3 play most games on Android. However, games that require graphics processing as strong as PUBG Mobile, you need to reduce the graphics to an average so that the process is smooth and stable.
Battery life Realme 3
Realme 3 is a 4,230 mAh battery, quite large compared to the configuration, especially the screen resolution is only HD +.
In the familiar battery tests with three activities: watching movies offline, surfing the web on Wi-Fi networks and simulating gaming tests on the GFX Bench app, Realme 3 has achieved impressive results. Especially in the movie battery test, this phone gives results up to 19 hours.
There are two tests for web browsing and gaming, which are only slightly less than the two Zenfone Max Pro M2 and Galaxy M20 with 5,000 mAh battery. Note that in all three battery tests, only the time from when the battery is full to 10%. This means that if you test the battery level, the result will increase by about 10%.
However, this phone is only equipped with a 5V / 2A charger, so the charging time will be long, the first half an hour only charges 22% of the battery and the total charge time is about 2.5 hours.
Camera Realme 3
Low-cost and mid-range phones are capable of shooting well enough with a favorable lighting environment. High-end smartphones offer more detailed images and wider bands, but the quality gap compared to low-cost and mid-range phones is not as big as it was a few years ago.
This fact is true for Realme 3. In daylight and indoor lighting conditions, the camera provides enough shots to meet the needs of social networking. The image has a fine detail and the saturation is often pushed up, making the colors flatter, more fresh than reality. The drawback of Realme 3 is the deep light strip and the algorithm that makes the focus a little strong. Therefore, the photos looked normal on the phone screen or the computer gave eye-catching results but enlarged to see spikes in the subject lines, not natural.
To compensate for the limited brightness range, the manufacturer put in this phone, Chrome Boost mode is like the enchanting Color mode on the Oppo F11 Pro or the vibrant color mode on Oppo machines last year. Chrome Boost mode increases color, contrast and color saturation much more than the normal shooting mode. The result is unnatural, but in some contexts, this mode is quite appropriate, making the image more vivid and fresh.
In low light, the camera has its own night mode. This mode works similarly to other phones: capturing multiple images and long exposure to produce the final, brighter, more detailed image. In fact, night shots give better results than conventional shots, getting more details in darker areas, more vivid colors. However, this image is only suitable for static scenes because of the long processing time, up to 4 seconds with low light conditions.
When not using night mode, the low-light images of Realme 3 still give good quality, bright colors, less noise with sharp, medium detail.
Font deletion images work quite well at separating the background and subject, especially with the background image is not too complicated. It does not take much time to capture the fonts that the basic results meet expectations. However, the lack of light shooting, the results are quite bad, the weaknesses are common on products of the same price range. Realme 3 also fixed the effect of deleting fonts in the image, not adjusting the level of font removal before and after shooting like Samsung or Xiaomi phones.
Realme 3’s selfie from a 13MP camera in bright conditions gives good detail and contrast, but the band is slightly low. Although there is only one camera, the phone’s front camera still supports font deletion. When capturing fonts, the beauty effect is automatically activated, making the face bright, pink and white with smooth “virtual” skin. When you need an honest photo, you can turn off all the beauty modes.
Realme 3 is the right choice for those who are new to smartphones without conditions to jump to the mid-range segment. It shows a round shoulder in most basic criteria: eye-catching design, long battery life, camera features and good gaming performance. Low resolution screen is a limitation of the product, but it is also a factor that helps the machine’s performance to be treated more gently and battery buffalo.
In the low price segment, Realme 3 is facing some remarkable products like Redmi Note 7 and Samsung Galaxy M20. In it, Redmi Note 7 has the same screen size but higher resolution. The Snapdragon 660 chip also offers better performance. The Galaxy M20 has a sharper screen and a bigger battery, but the price is more expensive and performance is worse than Realme 3.
